A new grocery chain is heading to East Alabama!
Opelika, AL will be home to a new ALDI store in 2019, confirmed ALDI Jefferson Division Vice President Shaun O’Keefe.
ALDI is well known and loved for its high-quality food and equally low prices. The grocery store is quickly growing its presence nationwide, with almost 2,000 stores as of 2018.
The date and location for the store have not been announced.
If you have never been to an ALDI, there are a few things to know before you go.
- BRING A QUARTER – you will need a quarter to get a shopping cart at ALDI, and can get it back upon returning the cart. The retailer uses this setup as a way to minimize costs for lost carts or staff to return them to the store from the parking lot. This savings helps keeps prices low at the checkout for you. - BYOB – Another way ALDI keeps their prices low, is by not providing bags for your purchases. You are free to bring your own bags or boxes, and can also purchase them from the store at checkout.
- YOU PACK YOUR GROCERIES – Once again, to keep prices low and checkout lines short, you are your own grocery bagger. The ALDI associate will place your items in your cart and after, you can take them to an area behind the checkout lines to place in your bags.
Now that you know what to expect, you are ready to enjoy the great food and low prices that ALDI customers nationwide love.
