Dinglewood Pharmacy Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Columbus, GA is known as home of AFLAC, the world’s longest urban whitewater rapids, Ft. Benning, and more importantly – Dinglewood Pharmacy.

This week, Dinglewood celebrates it’s iconic 100th anniversary, tying in age with Ft. Benning!

The pharmacy and restaurant is celebrating this week with a raffle and of course, a chili dog eating contest.

Despite it’s name, this local favorite is not famous as a place to get your prescriptions (although you can), it has been made a landmark by its lunchtime staple, the Scrambled Dog.

What is a Scrambled Dog?

The Scrambled Dog has been a favorite to all since the pharmacy first opened in 1918. It is a simple dish that you will either love, or not want to try again, but if you come to Columbus, you still have to try it.

The basic ingredients are:

  • Toasted Bun
  • Hot Dog (Dinglewood is known for its pink dogs)
  • Chili
  • Pickles
  • Oyster Crackers

Add-ons like extra pickles, onions, coleslaw, sour cream,  jalapenos, and mustard are available if you want to customize your dog.

The restaurant sells an estimate 600 of these a WEEK – so there must be something worth trying.

After you are done, you can wash down your lunch with a homemade milkshake, made just like they did in the old days with real milk and Blue Bell ice cream. (Check out their full menu here)

You can celebrate with Dinglewood during their normal business hours, Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST and Saturday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST
