These handcrafted king cakes look like beautiful works of art.
Creative king cakes take shape at Hi-Do Bakery in Terrytown. These custom, handcrafted king cake masterpieces can bring almost any image from a customer’s imagination to life — in king cake form.
Since Hi-Do Bakery’s venture into customized designs, the king cakes have become a Carnival staple.
The family-owned bakery started crafting fleur-de-lis king cakes during the Saints’ 2010 Super Bowl run, which inspired them to continue specializing in New Orleans-themed imagery. While the most popular shape is the fleur-de-lis, the bakery also creates crab, crawfish and crown-shaped king cakes.
Owner Ha Do is the mastermind behind these beautiful works of art. Customers flock to his bakery to make their king cake dreams a reality.
His daughter and staff member Kim Do says they even received a request to make an engagement ring king cake.
“Every year we get different requests, but that’s probably the neatest thing — to be a part of that for them,” Kim Do said.
Aside from the designs, the bakery still prides themselves on making a good traditional king cake, which has earned them a reputation for quality.
